Tritagonist

In literature, the tritagonist (from Ancient Greek τριταγωνιστής (tritagōnistḗs) 'third actor') or tertiary main character is the third most important character of a narrative, after the protagonist and deuteragonist. In ancient Greek drama, the tritagonist was the third member of the acting troupe. As a character, a tritagonist may act as the instigator or cause of the sufferings of the protagonist. Despite being the least sympathetic character of the drama, they occasion the situations by which pity and sympathy for the protagonist are excited.: 451  more »

There was a time before war, or so I believe,
When battles were sepia photographs in museum-quality frames
While a child cleaved to breast for the heart beneath
Repeating fathers' doxology with creeds of a Church Universal
Methodology taught unity, that denomination
Wasn't domination, a reconciliation between sects
But never was there sex between Bride and Savior on altar steps
Only kneeling subservient with drab wafers and juice
But don't call us distant after swallowing
The sacrament or our sprinkled baptisms
Or so I believed, until a baptistery
Taught fundamentalism's fundamentals
As an earthly king demanded haircuts
And disavowed maternal figures in skirts behind his pulpit
As sheep became soldiers, was his font the womb
Of illegitimate sons for holy war, or did its splash
Signify newborn spirits? And wars on distant shores?
We fought those cleaving to the First Adam and exponential original sin
We were of the Second Adam, to cleave the white walls
Of false religion with dunamis
But the Second Adam's progeny behaved no different than the First?
Where is Abel? Am I he? Was I raised
To raze like Cain for king and country?
I cleaved to your heart, for "he can no longer have
God for his Father, who has not the church for his mother"
But didn't Oholah and Oholibah lust for lovers with
Donkey dicks and cum like horses?
Was I of Gomer, not of God's people and he not my God,
Unpitied and punished?
You cleaved the Father, called idols lord,
Preached how we never deserved a good wife
And warred against demons and men filled with legions
I desired for your cure as to be of the Second Adam
Or so I believed, until entrusted to the Lord's Army
I became a freedom fighter storming a distant shore
