I had a preoccupation with days gone by
An electric connection to the screen
I felt like I was there though I'm not sure why
Or what were memories, regressions or dreams
I was a breakout star still getting breakouts
Hitting up the hangouts trying to play it cool
I never quite knew my era whereabouts
Even when I was just fresh outta high school
I think I've been reincarnated one too many times

So I tried to hide my youth
Put on a poker face and conceal my truth
I kept it cute and mute
Behind a deadpan demeanor and lots of rouge
I learned that life was all a ruse
I saw through the illusion and was not impressed
Left depressed and overdressed
That's what it's like to be the oldest youngest
I've been called forty since I was ten
Or at least that's what my grandma says
Used to leave my friends at the bleachers
At recess to talk to my teachers
I've alway felt different than the people around me
Like I'd reached my denouement
So I did my best to keep my calm
But my thirty something friends still called me mom
I think I've been reincarnated one too many times

My heart may be young but my soul is older
I'm sure this isn't my first time around

But my confidence isn't anything profound
