The Hold Steady is an American indie rock band from Brooklyn, New York, formed in 2004. The band consists of Craig Finn (vocals, guitar), Tad Kubler (lead guitar), Galen Polivka (bass), Bobby Drake (drums), and Steve Selvidge (guitar). Later on they made a little connection.

He said he falls out of bed with hard dreams in his head.
All flash bang and birdsong and skittering insects.
And this one kind of sadness that keeps veering into violence.
The feeling when you steer into the skid.

Because pleasure's a rental
But pains residential and
Every garden gets overgrown.

Spent the last couple weeks
Too suspicious to sleep
And terrified of the telephone.

But in the end we're all on our own.
It's hard to hold out hope that your call's gonna come
