I was raised by momma with no guidance from my father He never came around cause all we do is fight and argue Used to spend them holiday and summers with him often But as I got way older all I'd do is cause him problems The volumes high in my headphones I get lost in The music I play softens the reality that darkens It seems the life I live has me coming short on options So sick of this rat race and lack of space in this apartment Catch me out at Southfield we stayed running through the breezeway I never knew no different see that welfare had no lead way We stood in line the center gave us cheese that last like three days We tore stamps from books sometimes the bills we paid would be late We spent nights no lights and not because the switch or relay Phone was out of service couldn't call my friends on three way Momma tried her best we'd misbehave and take what she'd lay Could've of been a belt a hand a switch she'd swing it each way Often we'd ignore whatever discipline that she'd say Lessons were mistakes that we had to relearn each day We'd do what we wanted no regard no care see back then I was boosting clothes to keep up with the latest fashions Dabbling in drugs might've tried to move some packs in Learned to cook up dope the house all smelt like burning plastic I did what I had to when them times became so drastic Hate to work the factory never thought I'd make it rapping Spent too much no backing seems the math was never mathing Raps had too much capping the return was merely fractions Too busy chasing after trifling women bout that action Should've lost it all though I'm so grateful for what happened I'm trying to break this curse the generational attachment The longer it stays latched in makes it worse and that just facts and Grew up with so little I thought poor was like an accent Refuse to settle back into old habits time for action Gave my life to Christ and he removed all the distractions Placed my feet on solid ground and now I've gained more traction My souls was settlement for the accord and satisfaction And I know the reward is in the form something absent Something more eternal seems like heavens the attraction My family's my support and for them their ain't slacking I'm trying to break this curse to where it never can come back in The longer is around its more than likely it could happen It's time to change the outcome as we seek after adaption Give it all to God so we can watch him work his magic
