With roots in another century
We grew up together, you and me
We share the same mom and dad
So many good times we had
Runnin ’round in our rain boots
That we combined with a training suit
Yours red, mine yellow and black
Momma made us a toiletry bag
Together we invented games
Came up with our pets’ names
Always in for a good idea and
We used to play for hours in the sea  
Remember us in the back of the car
At times we drove very far
Off to see some waterfall
That sometimes wasn’t even worth it at all
But side by side with you

We went to the same school
Sometimes I acted like a fool
Your records I did not all like 
And I ruined your new bike
We stayed close you and me
Even through university
On your roof, looking at the stars
Sometimes I brought one of my guitars and
You came around with another flat tyre
My roommate set your heart on fire

And he’s still the one

I did not see that one coming
While I was busy strumming

And dad, he was mighty proud
It’s still not easy to talk about
It’s a shame that he can’t know them all
Passed away when they were very small and
Such a shame that they can’t know him too
But that’s life and what can you do
We had to move on
Staying close
On parallel roads

A strong woman you became
But in some ways we’re still the same
Goofin’ around like in the old days
You understand from the look on my face and
Sometimes my company
Is all you need from me
And a toast
To the crossing of parallel roads
