The sound he loved and that loved him in return
It was the sound that pierced and cherished and enlightened
It enlarged him and defined him
He rode the sound
And the sound carried him
And it was glorious
When he was in the womb he was warmed by sound
His parents sang to him
He heard them and adored them
Adored them for the gift of their singing
Adored them for their sound
As a child, when he heard birds he was enraptured by them
Their poetry, their language, their gorgeous wisdom shook his heart and moved his little hands and made him so happy
And the sound was there
Always there
And it was magnificent
He grieved for those who could hear but would not listen
The sound should belong to all,he thought
If he could have he would have shared the sound with everyone, everywhere
The sound showed him the way

Sometimes quickly
Sometimes slowly
Sometimes forward
Sometimes backward

But never did the sound go astray
Never did the sound falter
It was the sound
