The river is young, the river is wild
It jumps over rocks and stones, just like a child
It gurgles and it sings for joy, it splashes and it spouts
It dances like a crazy shaman, it's happy without doubt
And still it's looking out for new challenges to see
If it's strong enough to make it right down to the sea

The river has grown and the river is strong
Sculpting the landscape, proudly meandering along
Sometimes he shows his muscles planning treacherous attacks
He's trying to conquer new land and no dyke will hold him back
But finally, he understands that he can't win them all
Returning to his natural bed, he wonders what's his role

River, river, you're just like me
From birth to death, from source to sea
You're growing up and seek your way,
You try to show off, and go astray
But all your strength is not enough to change the world forever and for good

The river is broad and the river is deep
She's grown old and tired and appears to be asleep
She knows this is the final stretch and she just wants her peace
To think about her younger days when she was not at ease
She knows that soon she'll melt into the ocean for good
She's made her peace with Nature and with God, it's understood

River, river, you're just like me
From birth to death, from source to sea
We're growing up and seek our way
We try to show off, and go astray
But finally, we reach our end - at last again we're free
To merge into God's universe in humble harmony
