Signs of last summer's life remain
The sun strikes hard through April's breeze
The spring is here it breathes with ease

But winter's cousins still are here
Brown broken roots of fern appear
Between the fresh and damp new stalks
Of bracken that may line the walks

Now could be the springtime for my plan
Whatever comes I'll try and handle best I can
So I'll hoist my sail and hope that fair winds blow
Because I really do not know which way to go

The scent of new mown grass relates
To childhood stored in garden gates
This child stares dreaming at the sky
And thinks such happy times may die
