I was born with setting suns
Leaning on my windowsill
The perennial, the fleeting ones
Catching their fall behind a hill
Behind every roof I expect
To sight 'em just as bright still
And through the night reflect
From our tearful eyes

I was born a dreamer
Beneath closed lids I peered
With on trembling lips a prayer
Against deep-seated fears
When I loosened my grip
A void settled to widen here
A silence that disturbs our late sleep
Wherever one lies

I was scarcely born but have known only death
Trying to make up the time lost gasping for breath

I was born in a hurry
Along hospital corridors
With a growing worry
While flocked more doctors
My paternal grandfather passed
Behind all half-open doors
Where come forth and forever last
Ethereal light rays

I was born turning around again
Indwelt by ominous qualms
A friend from afar waved his hand
As summer ended shedding its charms
I was born and all I needed most
Always hid in my mother's arms
Outstretched for me with trust

I told this evening breeze a word
Maybe I should have yelled
Countless litanies left unanswered
Countless of mine failed

Nothing's for certain
Grief can't be soothed
Behind the curtain
Looms a concealed truth
Nothing's for certain

I was born at the end of highways
To the ring tone oh so sudden
In two policemen's chilling gaze
Upon surroundings dark had fallen
My maternal grandfather passed
Arises a memory we've forgotten
During hard times the glow it casts
In our inward stays

I was born and the stars died out too
Now to my dry eyes no more than few
Mere knots in the wooden ceiling
I browse dusty photo books of yore
Very pale faces regain their colors
Many places seeming barely familiar
Now the sky's strewn with only lampposts
Above a leafy street we walked in coats
I walk 'lone to rekindle this stray feeling
Beside my lover I was born
The heart swelling up 'till it tore
So much I could've share
One never shares enough

I gave the lowest of winds a kiss
Let it be carried away to her cheek
And if aloft got missed
I'll remain deluded another week
A further year to reminisce
To retain the sole dream I seek

But nothing's for certain
Not even a promise
What adds to my burden
Everything's lost in advance
