There I was alone training the ivy
When you arrived to see the best in me
I was doing fine trimming the hedges

The laughter of the earth blooming around us
When you got up and pointed out to me
Happy little accidents in the garden
The pollen only sticks itself to the bee

Walking by the marigolds
Smelling every daffodil
Talking evolutions tongue
Wishing you were born to harness the sun

With you I finally started using my senses
The butterflies and beetles spoke to me
Then I heard those seventeen year cicadas
Their resurrection sonnet high in the trees

I could sense a sadness under your smile
A loneliness was sown into your soil
I guess I should've known by your admissions
But I was blinded by your love for the weeds

Walking by the marigolds
Smelling every daffodil
Their tiny little epitaphs
Written by the root that lives on the past

So it goes the summer lost its momentum
The hummingbird in you began to slow
A premonition came to you in the evening
By morning you were off to study the sea

Love was something I could not relate to
The way a stranger tells you all of his dreams
Oh my darling now I get the picture
And love it sure did make a fool out of me
