Brian Nicholson

Brian Gerald Nicholson (9 May 1933 – 20 January 2018) was a British trade unionist. Nicholson grew up in the East End of London, and worked as a docker. He joined the Transport and General Workers' Union (TGWU), and by 1968 was a member of the executive of its No.1 Docks Group. There were those who said time heals all wounds
I just assumed they'd never met you
Now the haze as cleared
I know that ain't true
Wasn't sure that this day would ever arrive
Confetti falls
I'll send the invites
Think I may even crack a joke or two
Went through an old album of us
Just to make sure this feeling stuck
Pulse didn't spike when I saw your name
In screenshots of our old text chains
'Cause it's ebbed and flowed before
I always go back to wanting you more
But something feels different about today
I think I can finally say

I'm not afraid
I'm not afraid
To hear that your last name has changed
Or that you two are so happy together
I'm indifferent like you were whenever
Our chapter had closed
The margins filled with so many notes
Don't even think we really need a formal goodbye
You're a stranger
You've lost the spotlight

The only question is what will I do now
For so long you were all I thought about
You were the shoddy filter I saw my whole life through
Even now with all this uncertainty
There's no comparison
Yeah, you've been beat
Wouldn't trade this feeling for all the knowledge in the world
Oh no
I've had a lot of time to reflect
Our nights out
And nights stayed in
There's not a single one that I'd relive
And I'm done second guessin'
'Cause it's ebbed and flowed before
I always go back to wanting you more
But something feels different about today
I think I can finally say

I'm not afraid
I'm not afraid
To hear that your last name has changed
Or that you two are so happy together
I'm indifferent like you were whenever
Our chapter had closed
The margins filled with so many notes
Don't even think we really need a formal goodbye
You're a stranger
You've lost the spotlight
