I was born in the summer of my twenty-seventh year--
Coming home to a place I'd never been before.
I left yesterday behind me. 
You might say I was born again.
You might say I found a key to every door.

When I first came to the mountains, my life was far away--
On the road and hangin' by a song.
But the string's already broken and I don't really care.
It keeps changin' fast and it don't last for long.

And the Colorado Rocky Mountain high-- 
I've seen it rainin' fire in the sky.
The shadow from the starlight is softer than a lullaby.

I've climbed cathedral mountains.
I've seen silver clouds below. 
I've seen everything as far as you can see.
And they say that I went crazy once when I tried to touch the sun.
And I lost some friends, but kept my memories.

Now I walk in quiet solitude--the forest and the streams--
Seeking grace in every step I take.
And my thoughts have turned inside myself to try and understand 
the serenity of clear blue mountain lake.

And the Colorado Rocky Mountain high--
I've seen it rainin' fire in the sky.
You can talk to God and listen to the casual reply.

Now my life is filled with wonder,
But my heart still knows some fear
Of a simple thing I cannot comprehend.
Why they try and tear the mountains down to bring in a couple more.
More people, more scars upon the land.

But the Colorado Rocky Mountain high--
I've seen it rainin' fire in the sky.
And I know I'd be a poor woman, 
If I never saw an eagle fly.
