I sit alone while the smoke from wildfire sneaks through the window. The world's getting tired. Still say your name out loud, even though I left you behind. She's at home now. Peace unrecognized. Peace eludes me. I'll run after it for life. The lightning pain shoots through my mind. Alone, is it by choice? I don't trust my songs. I don't hear my voice.   Full of heartbreak, still a crying child with the keepsakes of a love that I let die and a lighter. Set it all ablaze. The look in my eyes and the fields go up in flames. From the high heat and the glittering sparks to my hometown burning in the dark.  Parked our cars near the reservoir. Misty air in the dead winter night. Passed around an acoustic guitar. Song share in the youth years. We forgot how to be fearless. Fear has covered everything. And the present moment hides behind the looming past. Regret stands between us and when we talk now it's soul crushing.   I remember pulling over by the library. My phone rang. After years you were calling me. Years of silence calling to say goodbye. You had cancer. You knew you were gonna die.  If I close my eyes I can still picture your face, laughing smile - the pink of your lips. An understanding. Formed a family, disbanded. Couldn't handle it when you took all those pills. Constant fear of loss. So, I packed up and drove back. But I didn't realize that I would never get passed it. No new norm. Knowing you're happy somewhere else. I couldn't live with losing someone else.  Yesterday collage. Exploding beginning. Out of chaos grew what we call everything. And it shattered when I jumped into the fear. And the pieces of our love, in the forest - blood redwoods, beating rain. You're a memory.
