Well, it was Stonewall, Texas August 27th of '08 Where Lyndon Baines Johnson arrived He attended some college Was a high school teacher Entered politics and found his insatiable drive In '34, he wed his sweetheart, Lady Bird Had Lynda and Luci, all LBJs Lyndon Baines Johnson, Texas-born-and-bred The call of Washington sent him on his way In '37, a U.S. Rep In '49, a Senator Held the leading seats till '61 Johnson tried to beat John Kennedy for the 1960 presidential nomination But Kennedy won Johnson became the VP But wanted more responsibility Lyndon Baines Johnson Texas-born-and-bred Held legislative reigns of power in DC President Lyndon Johnson, number 36, he was A shrewd, ambitious man doing the best at what he does Well, in late '63, in Dallas JFK was gunned down LBJ assumed the role of president Began the War on Poverty Expanded Civil Rights Pressed NASA, and more soldiers to South Vietnam were sent He faced protests over the Vietnam stalemate So in '68, chose not to run Lyndon Baines Johnson Texas-born-and-bred He knew a second term, he wouldn't have won Johnson left DC And returned to Stonewall Wrote two books and oversaw his library Had a series of heart attacks And died January 22, 1973 His legacy was blemished by the Vietnam quagmire His Great Society plan made his party strong Lyndon Baines Johnson Texas-born-and-bred He felt he did more right than what he did wrong
