Do you think Jesus was a cop? Strolled in sandaled feet to knock on the doors of Bethlehem A house search with a holy warrant A finding of sins that ends in a torrent of condemnation Earthly adjudication and the disciples defending your murder in the town square Conservatives seem to think cops aren't supposed to care Hell they seem to think nobody is supposed to care They carry around the scared worry God is going to lock them up at the end of life So they stock wrath up and feed the giant Play jailor in a huge act of suck up Turning holy life into living hell They sell batons in one hand and bible thump in the other Will beat you to death with either Justify both These require an eyes for eye Never-mind the turn the other cheek part They take to heart every mention of fire Take to the street to protest cops fired for shots fired As if Jesus himself was not killed by the cops For challenging the state A revolutionary on a rampage turning over the money plates And healing on Sundays When they told him to stop he just kept moving They had to take this new king down a notch There's just something about having to watch A black king walk with his head high A powerful truth and pride stitched in his side That upsets a roman IXII must call 911 because the son doesn't live here And he's got to be up to no good It's no hood but that robe is dirty And he attracts beggars and prostitutes Gentiles and the destitute No never mind the Jesus on the cross Let's have more of Jesus the cop The story of the good Samaritan Would have been totally prevented with a larger sentry budget Actually I'm sure every sunset Jesus would sit and watch the road to Jericho Jump out to give speeding tickets and slow down traffic A light not hid under a bucket But glaring in the rear view mirror And roving about looking for bandits Cursing and killing to uphold those ten commandments Sure he understands there are reasons for super predators But that's an altogether separate issue from keeping folks safe And justice doesn't much exist on earth So it's worth considering shooting them all and letting God sort them out Because the son of God does not give a shit about a reasonable doubt Agrees with Blue Lives Matter and would replace pretty much the entire state of California He has a malinformed ma who drives him to Kenosha Has Guile with ten mouse hive mind Has Kyle Rittenhouse alive inside And on the poster in his bedroom After all Jesus did come to fulfill the law I wonder what happens when they find out Jesus wasn't a cop That he did not hop on his donkey to patrol the streets of Jerusalem Wasn't choosy when it came to criminals As a matter of fact his last conversation on earth was with a thief Which in their belief Must not be as bad as selling cigarettes Or resisting arrest Talking back and ending up dead in a cell Or driving a car Having fun in a park Or lying asleep in your dark house Do you see now How these things must be worse How the lord of forgiveness Birthed in a barn Would surely curse the names we ring in the streets Would have stood by the cop who killed Botham Jean Cop Jesus would be silent Keen not to cross that thin blue line behind him And can I just say how easy it was to find The name of some dead black life to rhyme with Atatiana Jefferson Dead and gunned down at home with her kid Manuel Ellis The annual popped quiz killed saying I can't breath with an officer beating him They all think beating works Those batons and bibles thumping The jumping to conclusions And dumping bruised bodies into hell or jail cells They think they are cleansing something Have the impression they are here to crusade To invade people's homes To snap and break people's bones into lovable shapes As if the holiness of humanity were up for debate As if we were not lovingly made Mistakes included This is probably going to be hard to hear But life is not a video game Or a storybook With a convenient cast of characters to blame With a free righteousness pass that lets you off the compassion hook The bible is not about a holy war between good and evil Not some Steven Spielberg sequel between God and demons With all the good people driving church steeples through deviant's chests Despite what QANON says this isn't star wars Guest starring Joel Olstein sporting twin swords Defending us against the coming darkness Tearing sinful hearts apart on a glorious battlefield I feel the need to say this Because you have made the street a furious minefield Where sinners are black boys thrown onto windshields And the shield and badge is holy armor We are not the bad guys And Jesus is not a cop Had a ministry of healing and teaching The EXACT message abolish the police is preaching That our broken world needs help Not compliance That the finest laws are mindless without spirit And you people who won't hear it You are the same pharisees who feared him Who called the cops on a black man praying in a garden Because his grace put your hardened hearts on trial It was Easter the other day And Jesus, after being killed by the cops Broke out of his tomb Rolled back the door to his cell Conquered death and hell Abolished condemnation Fulfilled the law Defunded the devil And forgave And gave mercy And loved And forgave And forgave And forgave You should Try it
