Do you know somebody called Gil Scott Heron ? Yeah ! Yeah ! Well he was a political figure and singer During the seventies in the united states He used to talk about social classes And segregation as a black man living the revolution He used music as a vector for activism So here's an ode to him You know, the first thing I want to say is One of the roles of school today Is to teach students Conformity to law And respect for authority The core values in education reflect on the economical And political systems It renews the social order It keeps it in the good way we want it to maintain the balance Of capitalism and power relationships You know We legitimate the scholar ranking of individuals With a meritocratic point of view By hiding the fact that talent And will to perform Is influenced by social class The question is Do you teach the children to think by themselves and evolve Or do you make them repeat again and again The divine rules you made up to keep us in boxes ? Do you understand that the social class they come from Make their relationship to education different ? Why don't you stop the segmentation, tell me ? Huh ? Are you afraid ? Go f*ck yourself Now Why are there almost only white people at university, tell me ? Is it because the school system Is still somehow made for higher class students Why do we keep separating the children By their capacity to integrate to a privileged system And so limit the opportunities of the lower class ones ? I think That for working-class students Striving to succeed and absorbing The school's high class values Is accepting their inferior social position Now If you don't see the changes we need to make If we want to survive the climate Economical and political crises We only have one thing to tell you, right ? So listen up Go f*ck yourself All right, I'll just say it one more time So you really do understand what I mean Go f*ck yourself We want to create an education A fertile soil for reflection No more discrimination A kid's revolution We want to create an education A fertile soil for reflection No more discrimination A kid's revolution We want to create an education A fertile soil for reflection No more discrimination A kid's revolution What we would like to see now Is a school in which we teach the kids to learn To create To imagine new systems New ways of working together What we want Is to make a revolution As children do We're going to raise it With love With fire With joy We're going to raise it We're going to raise it We're going to raise it We're going to raise Stop stop stop stop Stop, stop the social ranking Stop, stop Stop, stop the racial classes Stop, stop Stop, stop the privileges Stop, stop Stop, stop the ignorance Stop, stop Stop, stop the social ranking Stop, stop Stop, stop the racial classes Stop, stop Stop, stop the privileges Stop, stop Stop, stop the ignorance Stop, stop
