I would always say Before you born That you were going to like music I used to sing to you I would read and I could always tell when it was something that you liked But when it came to music It always felt different when I was carrying you It was two songs I remember Every time they would come on the radio I would start feeling nauseous and I said, "This boy really likes the beats to these songs" and One of them was Jay-Z's "Hard Knock Life" and I still get that same feeling to this day Whenever I hear that song Cuz' I remember back to that And the other song was Lauryn Hill's "That Thing" So it was something about those beats I think You would be in there dancing or Feeling the music or something But early on we would always buy you musical toys So your first toy was a little baby piano and I remember before you could even walk I sat you in front of that little piano and We propped you up and you would just beat on it and Then you would look up At your dad and I for us to cheer and Then we you know We would cheer and you would look back down and You would play your next song and You would sit up and look up at us and We recorded all of your growth and You would always go to the TV and say "Can I see Marlon on the TV, I wanna see Marlon" You were always the star and Your great grandma said, "Y'all remember Marlon's gone be a star, y'all don't forget that" and to this day I'm believing you gone be a star On your way You've always had such a love for music I would always remind you as a teenager To try and think about your future and See how you wanna make your money and Set your goals towards that and Always keep your eye on what it is that you want to do and Live your life like you see yourself being Once you've made it Start now and don't wait until you feel like you've made it So I just need you to wake up
