I don't want to write a sad song today
There's so much to be thankful for
And spring is on its way
I don't want to write a sad song tonight
Though many dreams have met closed doors
I have new ones in site
I have new dreams in site

There comes a time when you realize
Everything you idealize
Isn't what you thought it would be
You watch love fade away
And optimism rot
But I don't want to write a sad song at all
I can hear life's beauty call
I can feel the warmth of summer days
I hear the music and I feel tall

I don't want to write a sad song today
There's wonders in this world to see
And joyous tunes to play
I don't want to write a sad song tonight
There's many men I still could be
I know I'll see the light
I know I'll see the light
One day I'll see the light

There comes a time when you realize
Everything you idealize
Isn't what you thought it would be
You watch love fade away
And optimism rot
But I don't want to write a sad song at all
I can hear life's beauty call
I can feel the warmth of summer days
I hear the music and I feel tall
