They say everything ends badly, or else it wouldn't end

At the In-Law's annual family reunion, and everybody's looking great
And great granny Nadine made it, even though she's 98
There's cousin Thomas and Joanie and their 2 year old baby
Who took a bit on uncle Ned's ear
And we found it on the floor, next to the cooler
So we put it on the ice with the beer!

They say everything ends badly...

It was a bright summer day and the heat was quite oppressive
The food was laid out and the buffet quite impressive
4 hours later the chicken salad was all "weapons grade"
So we ate and we ate, and we drank and we drank
And the kids took the canoe and had fun, 'til it sank
So we dragged them ashore and applied CPR until everyone was OK

Grandpa Jim brought some fireworks from South Carolina
Accidentally set them off in the car
So we laughed and we laughed until the ambulance came
And whisked him off to the ER
Top heavy aunt Betty has a mind like a steel trap
Remembers everything but her bar
And there's a 20 year old vixen cousin by marriage
Winking at me from behind a guitar

Family members falling out left and right
We decided we would hit the road
So I fixed the flat tire and loaded up and readied to go
We did our hugs and kisses and said our "good byes"
My wife might have shed a few tears
And someone in the back shouted words we were dreading
"we hope to see you back next year!"
