Akoeba

Akoeba is a multi-talented young African female artist (singer, songwriter, composer, and choreographer) who sings in several languages, principally in English and French. She hails from Togo and is well-versed in the socio-cultural norm of West African States. She has a University Degree in Business Accounting and Management and a BA in English Literature. Akoeba started her music passion at the very tender age of 5, she was always seen singing and dancing, entertaining family members during family gatherings. At the age of 11, she and 2 other female friends formed a band named the "Hot Girls" and they performed (singing and dancing) at various school holiday parties and other kids’ venues and events. She also wrote poems and children fairy tales and stories at that age. In fact, most of her song lyrics are actually the poems she wrote when she was 11 years old. And she still uses those poems to compose her songs today! Her first Album titled "The Stories" will be available on December 31st, 2018 and is a mix of various music genres such as afro pop, reggae, dancehall and world music, and talks about some episodes of her life. The album’s lead single titled “African Woman” was released on March 26th, 2018. “African Woman” is about the African Traditional Marriage process and its focus is on the African Bride Price. In a funny way, the song points out how a very expensive Bride Price can discourage a man from marrying the woman he loves because he can't afford to buy all the items requested by the woman's family. Akoeba is an inspiration and a source of motivation to lots of people both from her home country and others who have come across her music and story.

Akoeba!
Sè sè sè.... sè!

You say you look for a wife (èhein!)
Now you found fine fine girl (she's there!)
You've been dating for one year, two years, three years and now it's okay! (are you sure?)

Then, you decide you gonna move forward

You go see your parents
They say:
Oh my boy, if that's what you want then let's go! (lucky boy!)

You dey go to see the girl
You see her family, there now
She says:
Oh Darling! Do you really wanna marry me?

So! You'll need to see my Papa (hein?!)
You'll need to see my Pastor (éwoé!)
You'll need to see my Mama, Uncles, Aunties, Brothers, Sisters! (tchè tchè tchè...!)

African Woman Oh!
African Woman Say!
African Woman Oh!
Woman!
Woman Say!
(Trouble)
(This is trouble!)

Then this is what to do:
1st thing!
You gonna buy me wrappa
Second!
You gonna buy me a car
You gonna buy me a house
You gonna give me money

Buy me shoes (no seriously?!)
Buy me hair
And you know!
Make up, nails, jewelry
Designer (éwoé!) dress and handbags
Smartphones, perfumes and body cream!

You say you love me, right?
It's time for you to prove it
Don't put that shame on me now
If not, then no more games! (no more games)

African Woman Oh!
African Woman Say!
African Woman Oh! (Ahan!)
Woman!
Woman Say!

(Ah! this is what you see now, you say you look for a wife, and there she is now)

If ya don't know the matter (ékpanvo!)
Let me break it down for ya
This is an African Woman
She'll show you the way we do it!

Tradition is what "We" respect
Marriage is something no dey play

You said you look for a wife na? (èhein! èhein!)
You said you look for wife na? (èhein! èhein!)
You said you look for a wife na? (èhein! èhein!)

African Woman Oh!
African Woman Say!
African Woman Oh!
Woman!
Woman Say!

You said you look for a wife na? (èhein! èhein!)
There she is now,
Take her
Ya'll have to deal with that... (bride price)!

Karlos Danklou, beware of the still water!

Aaah!
So just because of what I said you wanna leave me na?
Oh! Honey?
Where are you going?
Honey, where are you going?
Please please!
Oh, please!
Wait!
Hey!
Honey!
Wait oh! Wait wait wait!
Please wait!
