Son Of Caesar

Son Of Caesar was brought to life in the early spring of 2012 by danish singer/ songwriter Peter Mathiasen. Hailing songwriters such as Ryan Adams, Bright Eyes and Sufjan Stevens, 30-year old Son Of Caesar sings his songs about love, loss, longing and wanderlust. In May 2012 he released his debut EP, where two out of four songs were well received by the largest radio station in Denmark. As was the first single “Madeleine Defoe” from his debutalbum “Winter Came And Went”, where he is accompanied by Jon Graboff (Ryan Adams & the Cardinals, Willie Nelson, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, etc.) and Nate Walcott (Bright Eyes, The Shins, First Aid Kit, etc.) ”Winter Came and Went” was released in September 2013 to much acclaim and praise from fellow musicians, music-journalists and internationally renowned music blogs. He also received a well-deserved nomination for Odense Live Talent Award, where he was awarded with the “Audience Award.” His debut album was partly financed by a very successful crowdfunding campaign, where a lot of people bought the album before it even went to press. It is recorded and produced in a close collaboration with producer Niels Høg, who has previously worked with bands such as Cody and The Kissaway Trail. The album is dedicated to the memory of Peter’s mother who died of cancer when he was only 18 years old. Especially the songs “Head Under Water” and “Winter Came And Went” is about lost love and how important it is to keep on living despite suffering great losses. Since 2014 he has been working on his sophomore album where he once again will bring in a few american musicians. Once again Nate Walcott (Bright Eyes, First Aid Kit) is featured on trumpet and also Catherine Popper (Ryan Adams, Norah Jones, Jack White) will play the bass. Several of his songs has received airplay and heavy rotation on the biggest national radio stations DR P4 and P6 Beat. In 2018 he has released two singles from his forthcoming album, played two showcase concerts at SPOT festival and supported Suzanne Vega on her DK Tour.

I know a girl who lives in Lexington
I met her seven years ago
She calls me sweetheart, love and honey bun
I call her Madeleine Defoe.

She likes my smile and I like butterflies
She carves our names in every tree
She buys me burger meals and curly fries
Says she’s my flower and I’m her bee

But I can never be her man
I can never be her man
No I can never be her man
And that’s the only thing she’s never gonna understand

I know this girl who lives in Lexington
She says my love for her will grow
She sends me greeting cards with puppies on
Yours truly, Madeleine Defoe.

But I can never be your man
I can never be your man
No I can never be your man
And that’s the only thing you’re never gonna understand

Sweet Madeleine don’t get me wrong – when you hear this song
But please stop calling me - if you don’t mind – it’s very kind
But I’m too old for you - you’re seventeen – I know it’s mean
But I have to end your relationship with my answering machine

‘Cause I got a girl who says I’m not alone
When I’m Doctor J. or Mister Hyde
She gets me drunk and pays the taxi home
Says she’s my Bonnie and I’m her Clyde

And I will always be her man
I will always be her man
So I can never be your man
And that’s the only thing I hope you’re gonna understand
