Over yonder across the hillside a couple miles the way The crow fly’s is a little piece of ground my grandad bought when I was 3 It was a rowdy little campground by the little sandy river and every time I pass on by it I reminisce about my teens I’d spend my summers by a fire catching catfish beneath the moonlight And picking my guitar at a bluegrass jam all night It was the summer of my senior year I got my first taste of freedom And I took part in them ornery things I was told I shouldn’t do And I’ve had times that were good there and I’ve had times that were bad But most the times I can recall was the most fun I’ve ever had I didn’t worry about tomorrow or the things that I had to do I was young dumb and reckless ten foot tall and bullet proof Soon as the school bell would ring Id fly down the hollow And pick up my buddy’s dad and old fellow named Frank He’d get all the booze that I wanted never asked me for a dollar Just some good conversation and a cold bottle of pop I’d buy some smoke next door and call up all my rowdy friends And we’d howl at the moon until the sun would come up Had several women on the line who were always willing to give me the time To hang around all night and keep me company And I’ve had times that were good there and I’ve had times that were bad But most the times I can recall was the most fun I’ve ever had I didn’t worry about tomorrow or the things that I had to do I was young dumb and reckless ten foot tall and bullet proof Oh the locals down there were a special breed of people Most folks would call them drunkards but I called them my friends They showed me how to have a good time like water on a ducks back Let the good times roll because tomorrow might not come They were twice my age but they hung right there beside of me And would go just as hard as my young body could go They were full of life a bunch of hillbilly poets Teaching me the ways of their happy redneck Zen And I’ve had times that were good there and I’ve had times that were bad But most the times I can recall was the most fun I’ve ever had I didn’t worry about tomorrow or the things that I had to do I was young dumb and reckless ten foot tall and bullet proof But now the times they have changed since I left that soggy bottom For a pretty little lady and to start a brand new life I walked away from the good times for a job And to walk the line because everybody knows that them lifestyles don’t mix Now most of my old buddies have too soon passed on While some of the others are serving time in the pen And the loop just aint the same It’s a whole lot milder than it used to be back in my hellion days And I’ve had times that were good there and I’ve had times that were bad But most the times I can recall was the most fun I’ve ever had I didn’t worry about tomorrow or the things that I had to do I was young dumb and reckless ten foot tall and bullet proof I was young dumb and reckless ten foot tall and bullet proof
