Oasis

The burning question in my soul is: "Will you stay, or will you go?" And after what I've done, I fear the latter I could pick and choose my words, but ev'ry protest sounds absurd There's nothing I could say that would matter I'd lose everything if I were to say anything that scared you away So I'm not sure how much to re-veal I couldn't stand these nights coming to an end So it's fine and great just being friends Your comfort's more important than how I feel So I'll be your oasis in your dry and desert land When you can't find any traces of hope, you need only take my hand I'll lead you gently to the water, asking nothing in return Just you here beside me as we watch the sunset burn Birds fly to the sky's end crossing the horizon By the promise of greener pastures, they are drawn And so they cross the fire out of nothing but desire Of finding water that just might lay beyond As the sand receives a solar kiss, I feel the heat and reminisce On hopes that you and I could become more And so I see those soaring birds are more courageous than my words I've never flown so near the fire before I just stay in our oasis in this spot of shifting sand Even though other places might be easier to stand We'll stay here by the water resting under shaded fern We'll sit here cool and safe as we let the sunset burn Though I might dream of riding into the sunset together I realize that nothing that's this good could last forever And so the burning question is quenched by this desert spring Making sure you're safe and sound is worth the suffering So this is where I'll stay Surely there's no shame In staying far away from the sunset's dying flame So I'll be your oasis when you feel sick and sore I'll be content seeing your face and desire nothing more I'll keep this fire inside me 'cause now I've fin'ly learned That having you beside me is better than getting burned Yes, I'm content with you beside me To see our star burn from afar Safe where we are Watching the sunset burn
