About Time After Time

"Time After Time" is a jazz standard about nostalgia with lyrics written by Sammy Cahn and music by Jule Styne in 1946. The first recording was on November 19, 1946 for Musicraft by Sarah Vaughan with the Teddy Wilson Quartet: Wilson on piano, Charlie Ventura on tenor saxophone, Remo Palmieri on guitar, and Billy Taylor on double bass. The song was written for Frank Sinatra in the 1947 film It Happened in Brooklyn. The pianist providing the music offstage was André Previn. Sinatra recorded it again in 1957 with the Nelson Riddle Orchestra.

Time after time you'll hear me say
That I'm so lucky to be loving you

Time after time, I tell myself
That I'm so lucky to be loving you
So lucky to be the one you run to see
In the evening when the day is through

I only know what I know
The passing years will show
You've kept my love so young, so new

And time after time you'll hear me say
That I'm so lucky to be loving you

I only know what I know
The passing years will show
You've kept my love so young, so new

And time after time you'll hear me say
That I'm so lucky to be loving you

Time after time you'll hear me say
That I'm so lucky to be loving you
Just you, just you

Teddy Wilson

Theodore Shaw "Teddy" Wilson (November 24, 1912 – July 31, 1986) was an American jazz pianist. Described by critic Scott Yanow as "the definitive swing pianist", Wilson's sophisticated and elegant style was featured on the records of many of the biggest names in jazz including Louis Armstrong, Lena Horne, Benny Goodman, Billie Holiday, and Ella Fitzgerald. With Goodman, he was perhaps the first well-known black musician to play publicly in a racially integrated group. In addition to his extensive work as a sideman, Wilson also led his own groups and recording sessions from the late 1920s to the '80s. more »
