About Discothèque

"Discothèque" is a song by Irish rock band U2. It is the opening track on their 1997 album, Pop, and was released as its lead single on 3 February 1997. The song exhibits influences from electronic dance music, characteristic of the band's musical direction in the 1990s. The music video, directed by Stéphane Sednaoui, was set inside of a mirrorball and featured the band members dressed as members of the disco group the Village People. "Discothèque" peaked at number one in several countries, including Finland, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, Norway and the United Kingdom, and it also reached number one on the American and Canadian dance and alternative charts. The song received mixed reviews from critics.

You can reach
But you can't grab it
You can hold it, control it
No but, you can't bag it

You can push
But you can't direct it
Circulate, regulate, oh no
You cannot connect it

You know you're chewing bubblegum
You know what that is
But you still want some
You just can't get enough
Of that lovie dovie stuff

You get confused
But you know it
Yeah, you hurt for it, work for it, love
You don't always show it

Let's go
Let's go
Let's go
Discotheque

Let's go
Let's go
Discotheque

Looking for the one
But you know you're somewhere else instead
You want to be the song
Be the song that you hear in your head

It's not a trick
'Cause you can't learn it
It's the way you don't pay, that's okay
'Cause you can't earn it

You know you're chewing bubblegum
You know what that is
But you still want some
You just can't get enough
Of that lovie dovie stuff

Let's go
Let's go, ah
Discotheque

Go go
Go go, ha
Discotheque

Looking for the one
But you know you're somewhere else instead
You want to be the song
Be the song that you hear in your head

Love
(You want heaven in your heart)
(Heaven in your heart)
(The sun, the moon, and the stars)

But you take what you can get
'Cause it's all that you can find
But you know there's something more
Tonight, tonight, tonight

Ha ha
Ha ha
Ha ha
Ha ha

(Boom Cha) (Boom Cha) Discotheque (I can't get, I can't, not enough)
(Boom Cha) (Boom Cha) Discotheque (I can't get, I can't, not enough)
(Boom Cha) (Boom Cha) Discotheque (I can't get, I can't, not enough)
(Boom Cha) (Boom Cha) Discotheque (I can't get, I can't, not enough)
(Boom Cha) (Boom Cha) Discotheque
(Boom Cha) (Boom Cha) Discotheque

U2

U2 are an Irish rock band from Dublin. Formed in 1976, the group consists of Bono (vocals and guitar), The Edge (guitar, keyboards, and vocals), Adam Clayton (bass guitar), and Larry Mullen, Jr. (drums and percussion). U2's early sound was rooted in post-punk but eventually grew to incorporate influences from many genres of popular music. Throughout the group's musical pursuits, they have maintained a sound built on melodic instrumentals, highlighted by The Edge's timbrally varied guitar sounds and Bono's expressive vocals. Their lyrics, often embellished with spiritual imagery, focus on personal themes and sociopolitical concerns. more »
