The Pitris (Sanskrit: पितृ, the fathers) are the spirits of the departed ancestors in Hindu culture. They are often remembered annually. Jathera or Dhok, from jayestha (elder) and dahak (dahak the sacred fire), are samadhi (shrines) dedicated to the worship of ancestors.
