Joy Division was a post-punk band formed in Manchester, England, in 1976. The band consisted of Ian Curtis (vocals and occasional guitar), Bernard Sumner (guitar and keyboards), Peter Hook (bass guitar and backing vocals), and Stephen Morris (drums and percussion). Their music was characterized by Curtis' haunting vocals, dark and introspective lyrics, and a combination of punk and electronic elements. Joy Division gained critical acclaim for their unique sound and influential albums such as "Unknown Pleasures" and "Closer." However, their career was cut short when Ian Curtis tragically took his own life in 1980 at the age of 23. Despite their short-lived existence, Joy Division's music has left a lasting impact on the alternative and post-punk genres.
