Ralph McTell (born Ralph May, 3 December 1944) is an English singer-songwriter and guitar player who has been an influential figure on the UK folk music scene since the 1960s. McTell is best known for his song "Streets of London" (1969), which has been covered by over two hundred artists around the world.McTell modelled his guitar style on American country blues guitar players of the early 20th century, including Blind Blake, Robert Johnson and Blind Willie McTell. Lifted up a rock saw a little snail
Don't you want to crush its frail body smash it's shell
Side of the highway car ran out of gas
Don't you feel just like a king as you quickly pass

We seem to have a need to be on top of all the shit
I'm crouched above my toilet seat not yet ready to commit

But at least we appreciate ourselves
One man's meat is another man's hell
You look at me as though I smell but at least we appreciate ourselves
Man up on a rooftop looks like suicide
Jump don't take all afternoon jump we need to see blood soon

Out in Ethiopia famine is so mean
I eat my TV dinner while I watch it on the screen

We try to be so nice I don't think we go far enough
I killed ten thousand ants today an insect's life can be so rough

But at least we appreciate ourselves
One man's meat is another man's hell
You look at me as though I smell but at least we appreciate ourselves

Nobody really appreciates, everybody just incorporates and amalgamates
Wouldn't it be great to appreciate, wouldn't it be great to appreciate?
Woulda woulda woulda woulda woulda wouldn't it be great?

Nobody really appreciates, everybody just incorporates and amalgamates
Wouldn't it be great to appreciate, wouldn't it be great to appreciate?
Woulda woulda woulda woulda woulda wouldn't it be great?

Bum on a corner says can you spare a dime
Get away from me you fool my girlfriend doesn't think you're cool
All across the country people without jobs
What a bunch of poor gross maladjusted slobs

We tend to turn away from things that make us fill with fright
I'd really hate to ruin your day but I'd really love to ruin your night

But at least we appreciate ourselves
One man's meat is another man's hell
You look at me as though I smell but at least we appreciate ourselves
