Colourblind

Blue’s for boys and pink’s for girls Or so we’re always told Short hair and trousers for the men While the women wear their pearls And you can’t break the mould Why should it matter if a little boy goes running round the house In his mother’s heels to express the way he feels? How could you love him any less just because he wears a dress? How could you throw him on the street because he didn’t want to hide Who he is inside? If the world was colourblind would we get along? Could we leave the wars behind and stop doing wrong? Would we all start being kind and fill up our lives with love? No more reasons why we hate, we could not discriminate If the world was colourblind Families being torn apart by war Forced to flee from their homeland Seeking shelter from the storm By the men in uniform Who want more power to command But they’re turned away from everywhere ‘cause no-one wants to know What if it was you? You know earth is their home, too? Why should it matter the languages we speak or the colour of our skin? Whether we are rich or poor we’re all searching for a place Where we all fit in So if the world was colourblind would we get along? Could we leave the wars behind and stop doing wrong? Would we all start being kind and fill up our lives with love? No more reasons why we hate, we could not discriminate If the world was colourblind Can you imagine what it’s like To live in that world of peace For humankind? When will we be colourblind?
