About Don't Wanna Fall in Love

"Don't Wanna Fall in Love" is a 1990 hit song for Toronto-born singer Jane Child. Released as the second single from her self-titled debut album, the single went to number two for three consecutive weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 from April 14 to April 28, 1990. It was kept out of the top spot by "I'll Be Your Everything" by Tommy Page and Sinéad O'Connor's recording of "'Nothing Compares 2 U". In addition, a "new jack swing" remix of the song was produced by Teddy Riley and reached number six on the R&B chart, and number eleven on the dance chart. Shep Pettibone also remixed the single, but was only released to DJ's. When released around Europe, it also became successful albeit more modestly. In the UK, the single stalled at number 22 after Child refused to appear on the popular British TV program Top of the Pops while the single was climbing the charts, considering the program to be a "sellout". In April 1990, the single was certified gold by the RIAA. It is Child's best known song and only top 40 hit, making her a one-hit wonder in the public eye.

Ain’t no personal thing, boy
But you have got to stay away
Far, far away from my heart, my heart
Don’t you know what your kiss is doing
Let me tell it to you from the start, boy

I don’t wanna fall in love
Love cuts just like a knife
You make the knife feel good
I’ll fight you to the end, baby

You’ve been hanging around, boy
And you have started sinking in
Whoa baby, you’re way out of line now
Unaware how this all got started
Let me tell it you one more time, boy

I don’t wanna fall in love
Love cuts just like a knife
You make the knife feel good
I’ll fight you to the end, baby

I don’t wanna fall in love
Love cuts just like a knife
You make the knife feel good
I’ll fight you to the end

I learned something about myself
Last night with you I knew
I didn’t want nobody else
And you’re scaring me to death now baby

I don’t wanna fall in love
Love cuts just like a knife
You make the knife feel good
I’ll fight you to the end

I don’t wanna fall in love
Love cuts just like a knife
You make the knife feel good
I’ll fight you to the end

I don’t wanna fall in love
Love cuts just like a knife
You make the knife feel good, baby yeah
I’ll fight you to the end

I don’t want to fall in love
Love cuts just like a knife
You make the knife feel good
I’ll fight you to the end
