When I was young concerned with new strange things
Short trips were special, small bits I reveled
My memory tells me life was better then

Filled with potential, free from what confines
I'd ride my bike with friends, but now I stay inside
All that was tough the adults handled fine
No care to look ahead, no stress behind

Wonder's inert in the present
The same day to day, I'll look back to grow
Myself, this life could be heaven
Harassed by my past to plan tomorrow
Remiss in appreciation
Who knew when I grew what I'd undergo
Aware must bear to be content
Get through when consumed, see potential

What I want come and gone
Tastes have changed developed different ways
I'm caught up in knots
Stuck in pity causing pain
Present not my foremost thought
Shown directions towards what I should chase
I'm taught to unknot
Left with meaning to attain

The world seemed teeming with possibilities
When I was young, but now been put to sleep
Believe I was pulled away, forced downstream
My eyes are blind to what's in front of me
Carefree with nothing to work toward
No team behind me to keep score
Must reach to achieve and be more
I'd prefer to walk than crawl on the floor

Patience, trust the wait's worth going through
Anticipation of what I'm gonna do
Look ahead, put some bright spots in my view
I'll work with what I have to lift my mood

Plucked from the past by the right now
Proceed apply what I took away
Think back to moments that stand out
Decide the favorites I know outweigh
Boredom, concern, facing self doubt
Deep breaths, I'll dissect and isolate
Make sense of feelings to lay out
New plans for good times to regain

Rather push to succeed
Than to have my options neatly planned
My childhood was free
But my parents led me by the hand
Joy underneath
Buried by belief that I can't have
A taste of the sweet
Carelessness of feeling armor-clad
