My daughter asked me, Daddy, there's something I don't see
There's no gift from you to Momma, underneath that Christmas tree
I said, I got your Momma, the best gift, from Sea to Sea
I didn't have no money darling, so, I got your Momma Me

I worked all year, broke even, and all my money's spent
A car, a dog, a pickup truck, three children and the rent
Doctor bills and groceries, and the rest for some good cause
For diamond rings and those fancy things; I depend on Santa Claus

The children's presents rapped up, in blue and green and gold
They huddle around the fireplace to hear Christmas stories told
Don't want you children thinking that your Daddy's so fancy-free
But I'm fresh out of money, so, I got your Momma Me

I went to town last night to look and maybe find another thing or two
Stepped inside the jewelry store, like any good husband would do
I took a look at prices, shook my head and walked away
She deserves much more than diamonds as a gift on Christmas day

Stockings hanging by the fire, I have nothing I can fill them with
It's a painful time of year, when you're running short on Christmas gifts
When Christmas day has come and gone, we want no faces long
So I wrapped this gift to Momma with love; and hope I didn't do it wrong

Christmas day has finally come; all the children shouted out with glee
Rushed into the living room, for their gifts beneath the tall green tree
One by one they opened things, every heart was filled with so much joy
Dolls, and dishes, toys and games, for every little girl and boy

I said I brought you something Momma, to stand by you like the mighty Oak
But first I must apologize, because you see, it's already broke
I went from store to store to find it; when I did, the darn thing was free
I didn't have no money, and I felt real funny, but Momma, I gave you me

I know the price of clothing; shoes and purses run sky high
But you deserve the best of things that my hard earned money can buy
Like a fool, with a ribbon on my head: I sit down beneath the Christmas tree
Children, nothing I could get her better, so I got your Momma me

My children broke out in laughter; my wife, she got a chuckle or two
There's no need in worrying about broke, when you love me like you do
My wife is happy with her gift, as all of you children can see
I didn't have money, but I tell you what honey, I got your Momma me!
