Scott Tyler (born 1965), known professionally as Dread Scott, is an American artist whose works, often participatory in nature, focus on the experience of African Americans in the contemporary United States. His first major work, What Is the Proper Way to Display a U.S. Flag (1989), was at the center of a controversy regarding whether his piece resulted in desecration of the American flag. Scott would later be one of the defendants in United States v. Eichman, a Supreme Court case in which it was eventually decided that federal laws banning flag desecration were unconstitutional. more »

I ran across the sand
Til glass tore up my heels and feet
I learned to be a man
By how I feel after defeat
Never feel my victories
Only clean and then repeat
Got my 3's down to the T
I learned that shit from Kobe
Man somebody shoulda told me
This shit would be so lonely
Mostly feeling ghostly
Hope we closer to the Holy
Hold it down just like a goalie
Move around like a shinobi
Worldy demons
Sink they teeth in
Gave us beatings
Til we Toby
Uh
That's how the world be
The devil get up early
And he never catch a Z
That's why my rollie
Came from digging gold
Like a nosebleed
That's blood diamonds
For my first love, rhyming
Never broke my promise
But she hurt my pockets
Every note that i wrote my momma
I'm so sorry for the dirt
Your first born was so unpolished
But you couldn't a seen it coming
You ain't no Nostradamus
You ain't no Nostradamus
So just
You ain't no Nostradamus
How we supposed to know?
We in the shadow of giants?
You ain't no Nostradamus
i mean most forgot us
If you saw where my father
Got it started
You would be startled
That i even made it through my first quarter of college
I had to scrap for a dollar
With half and half arnold palmer's
Life was sweeter when evil leaders and beatings
Wasn't upon us
To be honest
I wasn't always this violent
A product of reaganomics
I kept the peace in my pocket
But in my defense your honor
My dreams of getting even became my reason for being
Weakened my breathing and my reach to nirvana
I ain't releasing my armor
Til I see peace in Wakanda
Too many reasons to harm us
Black in the hottest of August
Different Salam in my palm
Nah I don't speak Dali Llama
And I ain't hiding my hand
I'm underground like them pyramids
That lie in the sand
I dodged a scorpion at six
I could died in Sudan
Where the heat'll crack ya egg
And get to frying ya pan
It's just a part of the plan
So I
