I saw her first on a Xmas day
Sitting in church while she sang and prayed
Four rows ahead and across the aisle
Dressed like a doll, slender and fragile
I took a chance to meet her
Taking my place in line
I went across to greet her
Taking her hand in mine
Something came over me, I had a waking dream
I had to wait and see, I had to speak with her
Something I can't describe, something there in her eyes
Something I'd waited for, for all my life
Standing uncertain beside her pew
I hurried forward to take my cue
Timid and lovely, her face in view
I took her hand saying, Peace be with you
I said, My name is Kevin
She said, And I'm Kathy
I live upon the mainland
I'm only visiting
Something awoke in me, I had a waking dream
I had to wait and see, I had to speak with her
Someone I'd known before stood here before my eyes
Some long forgotten dream come back to life
And then she was gone from my life, gone forever
And when she was gone I could never forget her

Xmas day I will return, year after year
Warm was her welcome, she played her part
She offered her hand, it was mine to grasp
Calm was her voice, though she was alarmed
