Dandy

A dandy, historically, is a man who places particular importance upon physical appearance, refined language, and leisurely hobbies, pursued with the appearance of nonchalance in a cult of self. A dandy could be a self-made man who strove to imitate an aristocratic lifestyle despite coming from a middle-class background, especially in late 18th- and early 19th-century Britain. Previous manifestations of the petit-maître (French for "small master") and the Muscadin have been noted by John C. Prevost, but the modern practice of dandyism first appeared in the revolutionary 1790s, both in London and in Paris. The dandy cultivated cynical reserve, yet to such extremes that novelist George Meredith, himself no dandy, once defined cynicism as "intellectual dandyism".… more »

No one ever seems to get it
I see the same faces around
Nothing ever seems to change, what am I doing in this town
I have always felt so different
A purpose to transcend
I'm so tired of treading water, will this tide ever end
You said go, but what for
Let's ride these waves into the shore
This won't mean anything
Unless we try
For what's lost, forgotten
Won't matter in the sunlight
I'm telling you this is not the end
What are you waiting for
What are you waiting for
Tell me what are you waiting for
What are you waiting for
Everything is closing in
It's like drowning in the air
And they can try to hold me under
But I'm not going anywhere
If what's inside me still holds true
Then I'm never folding, never changing
A thing for you
You said go, but what for
Let's ride these waves into the shore
This won't mean anything
Unless we try
For what's lost, forgotten
Won't matter in the sunlight
I'm telling you this is not the end
What are you waiting for
What are you waiting for
Tell me what are you waiting for
What are you waiting for
When all seems lost, when counted out
Just take a breath you're OK
You're stronger now, the past is gone
Now take that chance, it's not too late
You've come this far, don't look back now
Those days are done, there's more ahead
I promise you this is not the end
What are you waiting for
What are you waiting for
Tell me what are you waiting for
What are you waiting for
