I was a young boy around the age of ten
When Confederate Railroad came to Macon
Didn't get much sleep that night before the show
But the next day I went out to see em to that sold-out Macon Coliseum
I wanted to be just like em on the radio
So I went home and picked up my guitar
Then and there a fire started in a young songwriter's heart

It was the soundtrack of my teenage years
Where Jesus and Mama caught me with those beers
She tanned my hide as she prayed for my soul
We sang Daddy Never was the Cadillac Kind
Tryin' to keep that ol' Ford 'tween the lines
And I learned how a Summer In Dixie could be so cold
It felt like y'all wrote all those songs 'bout me and this life that I live in Dixie

The years rolled by and it didn't take long 'fore
I was in the bars with my guitar and my songs
Singing my heart out to the walls for tips
And I covered those tunes that I grew up on
Sang Queen Of Memphis got 'em singing along
And them Southern Belles would holler play Trashy Women next
I cut my teeth in all these little bars
Singing She never cried when Ol' Yeller died while aiming for the stars

It was the soundtrack through my wild-ass twenties
Where a DUI cost a purdy penny
And I had to call my Mama to post my bail
So when you leave that way
You can never go back to this day stops me in my tracks
Cause she probably should've let me sit in jail
It felt like y'all wrote all those songs 'bout me and this life that I live in Dixie

So I thought I'd take the time just to say I appreciate the ride
And the memories y'all gave us along the way
Y'all taught us how to laugh
How to love and fight With your fiddle and your steel and that Southern Pride
So I had to write this song to tell y'all thanks
With your inspiration I think it's fair to say
That without those songs I wouldn't be who I am today

It was the soundtrack all throughout my thirties
Where I chased my dreams broke hungry worried
How I'd provide for my Queen and our four sons
I'd tell 'em if you wanna hear a badass band
Let me play you one called She Took It Like a Man
They learned Hell hath no fury like a woman's scorn
Don't it feel like they wrote those songs for you and me
And this life that we live in Dixie
God bless this life that we live in Dixie
