What are you here for
Diplomas, degrees and differentiation
Why do you read
To learn
Why do you study
To remember what I learned
I'm glad you know because lately your Actions haven't reflected your Knowledge
You get to college indulge in toxins
And then like a baby marsupial you Jumping out of pocket
Popping off to the wrong one will Leave you on the wrong end of a gun
And it'll get to blasting off like team Rocket
You feel tired and now you want the World to know you hard
So you puff Out ya chest and lose your damn mind
And put yourself at risk to lose ya life Well before your time
You think you got bars so why do you Act like using
Your words is a crime to express Yourself
Jeopardizing your future over Temporary situations
That you like to Call love when really you're too Ignorant to Know what love is
That's not hard
Fighting over words that you don't Even know the definition of
That's not hard
Taking from people that have worked So hard
To keep their record clean and Get these nice things by just means
That's not hard
Feeling like you can justify taking the Life of someone else's offspring
Because they made you upset and your Leadership skills are so weak
That you cant even tell yourself what To do
That's not hard
Dear Black Student
What are you here for
Diplomas, degrees and differentiation
Why do you read
To learn
Why do you study
To remember what I learned
Let me tell you what's hard
Grave stones
Which will be the only significant Mark
That you've left on this world if You continue
To put your life in danger
By Acting on unjust emotions fueled By hate and anger
That's Hard
Pavement which is where you'll find Yourself
Being slammed time and time Again by the police
Because you tryna Impress ya homies
And we can only Pray like a woman at the lords knees
That they wont take your life
That's Hard
The mattresses
The mattresses in a prison cell
Which is where you'll find yourself Trying to sleep having nightmares
Everyday because the devil is trying to Creep Into your innermost intimacies
And demean you of ya manhood in Order to assert his own dominance
That's Hard
Moving om
Moving on after the loss of a child
One that didn't get to live
One that had the biggest dreams as a Little kid
One that you sent away in hopes
That They'd come back to you even better Than they were
Maybe even the best
But in all actuality
They acted right in ya face
But the director flipped the script Whenever you left
That's hard
The cover
The cover on a textbook that could Keep your mind occupied long enough
To keep you from being a victim of the Wrong place at the wrong time
That's hard
A desk
A desk that you would reserve for Yourself in each of your respective Classes
So that you could pursue the Enhancement of your self in the Upmost comfort
And if you can't see Make sure you sit close to the board
That's Hard
Classes
Classes that you're hardly even passing
That you aren't prepared for because You haven't gone in weeks now
It's Test day and you can hardly even think
Because you skipped the meals you Need to eat and barely got any sleep
So now you are trying to cheat
But you didn't realize there was a test A and B
Each one with a different key
Now you are asking the lord
Why me
That's Hard
Dear Black Student
What are you here for
Diplomas, degrees and differentiation
Why do you read
To learn
Why do you study
To remember what I learned
Let me tell you what else is hard
Being a student getting paid a six Figure salary at least all
Because you Graduated with a degree
That's hard
Living to see the age of eighty-three
And proving to them that the good Don't always die young
That's Hard
Destroying all stereotypes created by Anyone
That demeans our race and Belittles our culture
That's hard
Good credit a clean criminal record a Home
Built on a solid foundation an Abundance of accolades
Creating a way When there is none making a Difference changing the world
That's Hard
Dear Black Student
What are you here for
Diplomas, degrees and differentiation
Why do you read
To learn
Why do you study
To remember what I learned
Good
Get the hell out of my office
I don't want to have this talk again
Oh and by the way
I'm expecting great things out of you
Aight
Aight
Peace
