Time passes by in the worst of ways Seemingly eternal during the bad times Infinitesimally brief during the good I have always wanted to sit time down And give it a piece of my mind A peace of mind that only surfaces If and when the time is right I wrestled oughts in its volition Wound up its thoughts to powdered woulds Rewired its clockwork inhibition And worked its musts to damn-well-should's I wrestled lots with its traditions I languished over its permanence And my allotted time conditions I reframed time, and time against And then I looked at the small marks I'd left upon its crest Shy over how long it had took And yet so eager for a rest / I better trust the blazoning fires Since I can't vouch for a reset After the resin cooled to touch I'd made my edits permanent The grasp of time that I had none of Just for a second, just for me Slowed down to quite over a minute And then a minute turned to three And maybe six to forty hours Passed onto light as I could see And as time marked post-dates on my brow I stepped into eternity In the next life I sure hope That I will see more of thee Because when I leave marks on time It too leaves its mark on me
