I know that we’re learning subtraction facts.
I know that we’re learning “take away” math. I know that we’re trying to be exact,

Think addition. Think addition.
It’s easy to subtract if you think addition.
When you are solving a problem and you need to subtract,
I want you to think “addition facts.”

If you know your addition facts, it will help you when you subtract.
Let’s look at the problem 8 - 5. I want you to think, “5 and what make 8?” If you know that 5 + 3 = 8, then this strategy will help you solve your subtraction facts! The “think addition” approach will work with all of your subtraction facts. It’s a great strategy.

Let us practice this concept with our facts of 8. Let us think addition as the answer we’ll state.
I will say the problem. Just follow my lead.
It’s the only way to learn, don’t you agree?
