I thought I'd write
So I brought a pen
But it seems that everybody's words come down again
Like water on the street

Around my feet
Laugh to see them swirl
Echoed by the laughing of a girl
Who thinks like me
But says everything she thinks

And I always walk so cautiously
For fear of fucking things up again
The picture I drew in the wet concrete
A secret and careful reminder of me
And I wrote it in Hebrew so no one can read
And I wrote it backward in Sanskrit and numbers
And 'I' in this poem is somebody other than me

What you said
Stuttering and slow
I couldn't catch the meaning in between
And I don't know
If I really want to

But you should go
And I will shut the shade
On the picture of the Devil that I made
Cause it'd be awkward in the morning if you stayed

And someone was talking, so I played dead
Rather than try to converse about baseball
No insult intended, but that's enough said
I'm drinking to drive your voice out of my head
And it's weeks now since I have been openly cruel
And it's been so long since I smiled out of habit
And I'd better leave before it gets too comfortable here

If you want my opinion
Well, I said it's fine
I guess you could have spent more time on the words
It doesn't really rhyme
But that's just me
And I'm kinda slow
I only had one class in poetry
And I was drawing the whole time
So I don't know

And I always walk so cautiously
For fear of fucking things up again
The picture I drew in the wet concrete
A secret and careful reminder of me
And I wrote it in Hebrew so no one can read
And I wrote it backward in Sanskrit and numbers
And 'I' in this poem is somebody other than me

And someone was talking, so I played dead
Rather than try to converse about baseball
No insult intended, Sir, that's enough said
I'm drinking to drive your voice out of my head
And it's weeks now since I have been openly cruel
And it's been so long since I smiled out of habit
And I'd better leave before it gets too comfortable here
