Scored by an abrupt stream
A rural reverie on once concrete things
Treating crumpled paper as a scroll
I transcribed the fading thoughts
Arising from the mausoleum in my meadow
An ugly, overgrown silo

It recalled the water tower
From the hometown I thought home

I knew from here
There would be spirals
A downfall

I knew from here
There would be spirals
A downfall

The sight of the silo
Is causing some trouble
For acquisitions sight-unseen
The sight of the silo
Is causing some trouble
For acquisitions sight-unseen

Back at the ranch
I was sleepless
Hearing the jackaroos returning

The deafening silence that has scored our lives

Wild wheat over irrigated teats
Unseen patterns of flora and fauna
The cities are bespoke tailors for black holes
And we're still playing cowboys for the day

Still, I could not sleep
The grass kept bleeding on my feet

I knew from there
There would be spirals
A downfall

I knew from there
There would be spirals
A downfall

Ontology is a footnote
A box to be ticked, and left derelict
And whoever suggested that "sorry" was anywhere near enough?

The sight of the silo
Is causing some trouble
For acquisitions sight-unseen
The sight of the silo
Is causing some trouble
For acquisitions sight-unseen

The poet by the quiet creek
How is it possible to report peace

Wind in the grain, like a steel maraca
Pummeling percussion, plasma lacquer
And resigned capitulation
I think a fitting anthem for our nation
Don't change a word they say, nor hoist a flag
Ask the hamstrung straggler
To follow along
And to any demur, say, "Get over it"
Routine restoration, and still the silo rots
