Hear ye the story of the Grand Mirage A constitution of evil and splendor The land had been condemned by the Ma-hiraja But the prince was much too young to remember It was first discovered by an Apostle of God Whose life, by then, was all but forsaken Across the unforgiving desert he had stumbled and crawled His mind was weak now, his body was aching The sun grew cruel with the heat of high noon The snakes were bathing and the buzzards were soaring When just beyond that desert's largest dune A paradise lie before him And in that moment in incomprehensible bliss His precious God he had forgotten to thank No this salvation had not come from any spiritual kiss And he didn't give a f*ck, to be quite frank Alone in that place the prophet lived in hypnotic euphoria But just because he feels something That doesn't mean that it's good for ya Forgot was his name, unrecognizable became his visage And now his life will last him forever in the Grand Mirage The grasses grew tall and the trees bore fruit That taste of sweet juice and bitter narcotics The cool breeze whispers with the voices of ghosts Final words perhaps, at least they are honest Our prophet was a practical man it would seem He was never one for superstition But he would be remised not to dwell on this dream Lest he forget that it's all but a vision While this paradise might seem a cheap thrill Bounties lost and temptations so rife It only nurtures, it does not kill But almost never fails to take a life For after your fragile human mortality From the rest of you has taken it's part Only then will you truly see That life is so much more than your beating heart Yes it is So who are you now, if all your life you've fancied yourself a hypocrite? What's the point of loving something if all the love is making you sick of it? Forgot was his name, unrecognizable became his visage And now his life will last him forever in the Grand Mirage Have you forgotten yourself? Have you taken on the name of a stranger? Have you the courage, the power To free yourself from certain danger? No no no And will you spite yourself for a chance at what's at large Or become just another soul Lost among the Grand Mirage
