The Smallgoods

The Smallgoods is an Australian indie pop band originally from the Victorian coastal town of Port Fairy, but now based in Melbourne. The band's music draws on influences from 1960s artists such as The Beatles and The Byrds, along with more recent pop influences. The band was originally a four-piece consisting of brothers, Gus and Lachlan Franklin, Ben Mason and Shags Chamberlain who established themselves on the Warrnambool pub scene in 1999 - Ben and Lachlan were playing in local cover band, Slight Return, Gus having achieved 15 minutes of fame with his Triple J Unearthed winning group, Gramps, and Shags playing keyboards with the Port Fairy band, The Pimps.  Watch: New Singing Lesson Videos Can Make Anyone A Great Singer

The party's over, the song is sung.
I never wanted another one.
The creature's crawling up to the light,
With his insatiable appetite.
We shut the blinders to shield the sun,
Don't look behind us, start to run.
Don't go embracing the evening sky,
Now every star is a satellite.

In time we all feel better on our own.
Don't cry. Be comforted by the telephone.
We keep on digging when the darkness is all we've found,
And in the darkness we'll be building the underground,
But in the morning we can run and hide.

The signs are there it could be the end.
The fabled horsemen have brought their friends,
Filled with a confidence fuelled by fear,
Riding away with the atmosphere.
Whatever happened to paradise?
Tossed in the ocean when paddling for our lives.
And navigating by starry skies,
But every star is a satellite.

And how have we forgotten what came before?
And now we preen ourselves for the curtain call.
A lonely spotlight in the darkness is all we've found,
And from the darkness we'll be building the underground,
But in the morning we can run and hide.

In time we all feel better on our own.
Don't cry. Be comforted by the telephone.
We keep on digging when the darkness is all we've found,
And in the darkness we'll be building the underground,
But in the morning we can run and hide.
