I was on my way to say
Exactly what I meant to say
I told you so and you stopped me by the door
What do you mean you read the words
Meant for me, but sent from her
Your friend, and now you say the words were yours?

Who was it I'd fallen for
I told you all, you asked for more
Why ask for what you never wanted first?

You said, It was game, I'd help
But then I saw you couldn't tell
And I thought love and lines could be rehearsed

For bliss was a game you didn't know that you were in
And a kiss can be tamed so it was show that it was sent
From another, from the one you couldn't tell should've been there
From a lover who loved more for you to have than be a pair

You said the words I stood the same
You braced yourself against the frame
And I saw there was shock in both our eyes
And replaying all the notes I knew
Reattributing them to you
They seemed to fit the kindness, just your size

But was I really that obtuse
To feel the pull yet miss the truth
Misuse a friend I knew was always near
You said, I'd meant to tell all the while
But seeing just the way you smiled
Was all I hoped and it was all I feared

For bliss was a game you didn't know that you were in
And a kiss can be tamed so it was show that it was sent
From another, from the one you couldn't tell should've been there
From a lover who loved more for you to have than be a pair

You said, Surely you found it strange
That silence suddenly had changed
A letter from an old friend, unaddressed
For after all of this time
To drop in now and drop a line
Could only be coincidence at best

When the other night that you and I
Talked as friends and you confided
An old flame of which you were unsure
For even as you reminisced
You couldn't shake the dissonance
Between the love you held and the one you heard

For bliss was a game you didn't know that you were in
And a kiss can be tamed so it was show that it was sent
From another, from the one you couldn't tell should've been there
From a lover who loved more for you to have than be a pair

So I said
It's a lot to take in
But I, I, I
Think you don't understand

That bliss is a game
That bliss is a game

That bliss is a game you should've know you were sure to win
And a kiss can't be tamed when it finally knows where to begin
With a lover far too kind and too circumspect to be
Yet a lover who I
Expect I'll never
Leave
