I remember fondly there was a time when my mother made me a strawberry pie

Than the thick jam that I was hoping for

Of a pie so decadent
Made possible only by the slits in the top
That help it vent
I worry only for my descendants
That I might not be able to stop

That might have to see what's lost to the wealthiest
Bakers who dream of strawberry pies
With beautiful slits imitating your eyes
When you stare at the sun
