Back in high school freshman year
Walking through those doors with immense fear

Sophomore year I got two more years
My classmates are feeling chill, I was always feeling ill
Stopped caring about the classes, started thinking how I'd get bills
Bro's still with me helping out but it's his last year here
All his friends leaving too

When I'd skip study hall early thinking that I'm cool
We hang out in my basement floor

See, I wanted education but I despised the idea of the classwork

My orchestra class had been keeping me sane the whole year
Came by the music department during break
Teacher telling me that she'd offer her bets I could be at the top

My last two years were drastic
Last two years I was procrastinating
Took an alternative program that was Godspeed
Where I could take the classes I'd been needing
Took my teacher's advice and started learning
'Bout some music theory and started participating
In their department every hour I could get
Sometimes in there for my whole day
Dedicating my time and effort into bettering their department
Every moment of focus I had within me was met those days
Now my life was turning around
Had some negative moments pop up every then and now
Made some stupid decisions that made me lay down
And think what was I doing with my life
But now I can witness an uprising
Although I'm not with them currently
I'm guessing that what I left there was a blessing
So now what I got to do is give some credit
And return the favor to them as they helped build who I am
That's why I'll always be thankful for their influence
