When did we get here To this point of year Listening to the rings of autumn’s calls Waiting for every leaf to fall How did we get here To this place where time is lost in space Stretches the sky too wide Waits for the sun to groggily smile Till it hides most mornings and nights And cries between every dreams smite Stuck between the afterglow of summer’s golds And winter’s warnings of oncoming colds How did we get here Already? So soon To this place where we shake hands with our shadows And find comfort in the night with the moon Though there is fear in getting lost in the dreamings And so, we are lost to time And the space between us stretches too wide Tears the sky till it cries So we hide most mornings Bury ourselves under blankets after blankets of our own potential That lies in bed with dread Sinking heavy into our promised days But we’re just not quite there yet Pillowed by ideas of who we could be - not who we are Smothers our face, suffocates our space With days spent sitting only in our own breaths - scared to step out of our chest Lest we fail to our deaths - poisoned by the pedestals that Feeds our dreams dipped with ambition and calls it life’s love So what now, love Love settles in our inner linings Builds a nest for us to rest Whispers empty promises every night before bed Times our stories so most of it is dead And promises us more - always more - but I cannot do this anymore So what now, love? What is there to love in life? What life is there to love Every choice is the next step moved in our dance But I don’t want to leave my life to chance To toss it loose in the fumbling hands of luck Like I’m some young buck That drunkenly spins heads Following tales of living and calls it fate With no map of ours to make. I am tired of days spent digging and digging and digging For the treasure in my chest When all I have found is a grave for my days gone best These days are never the easiest Comfort crispens the cries of change that greets us earliest When we seek the spots of light on our stage Watch our days ripen with age As autumn leaves her mark Breathes life into our hollowness, that hides in the dark Though we mourn the loss of our light Not all is lost in our plight The sun still waves from afar Leaks light through slits between trees, and leaves her door wide ajar Still blows us a kiss And sends glimmers of days promising bliss So she reaches out to us - cups warmth, to caress our cheeks Whilst winter’s wind still visits to slam her door shut most weeks Our days are past ripening The green grows gold Burns red when all is said And falls to make a bed, but when will we truly rest Our days dangle Withering in the nights mourning summer’s warmth Hanging onto the moments that we’ve held on to, for so long Believing our wants suspends our needs For there is no more growth to come of these seeds As we break from the branch that no more feeds So we finally fall free Floating into piles of honey doused hope that glazes amber stones Coats our old selves with gold Spits embers of red when all is said And falls to make us a bed, waiting for us to rest So, when did we get here To this point of year Listening to the rings of autumns calls Learning to rise after every leaf falls
