Home and Away is an Australian television soap opera. It was first broadcast on the Seven Network on 17 January 1988. The following is a list of characters who first appeared in 2009, they are listed in order of their first appearance. They were all introduced by the show's executive producer, Cameron Welsh. The 22nd season of Home and Away began airing from 19 January 2009 and concluded on 27 November 2009. The first introductions of the year were Gina and Hugo Austin who arrived in January.
