I spied an old man who was packing up boxes
Just packing up boxes with a look of dismay

"I don't know your face so I know you're not from here"
The man said to me as I tried to step by
"No you are not from here, well you chose to move here
Now I've lost my home for my rent is too high"

He said, "All of my life I have lived in this building
I raised three kids on a carpenter's pay
Now the building's been sold and to the streets, I've been told to
move all of my things 'fore the end of the day"

I never made much but we always got by
My family and neighbors looked out for each other
Good faith in good people is how we survive"
