This one goes out to the kid that I never met
Who wakes up everyday and is scared to get out of bed
His mom died when he was young, just before his father left
And everyday she sits and wonders why she even exists
He's just a teenager, already fending for himself
With no place that she calls home, she worries about her health
On the street, pain relief comes from cutting himself
The only money that she makes just comes from selling herself
Just to get her next fix, she keeps on telling herself
That this is the last time, he's making plans for something else
To get up out of this slump, if she could just get a little help
But the only response he gets is, 'just stop kidding yourself'
How often can you just keep being told that you're worthless?
That you'll never become shit and you probably deserve it
So you're always nervous, wondering what the hell is your purpose
And thoughts of suicide suddenly seem fun to flirt with
Looking back on the past you just wanna forget it all
But if you keep moving forward, one day you'll be walking tall
Then you'll look back again and see everything that you've accomplished
No more wishing it was over, enough with all that nonsense
Cuz when you're looking back you just wanna forget it all
But if you keep moving forward, one day you'll be walking tall
Then you'll look back again and see all the things that you've accomplished
Walking around with confidence
Really, I'm being honest
You know what it's like to not wanna face the day
When it's hard to breathe, you're dizzy and just wanna fade away
From everyone, even yourself, never mind family and friends
Cuz you have none, screw psychiatrists, nobody understands
They always wanna just keep on filling you up with meds
Anti-psychotics, anti-this-and-that and anti-depressants
As if there's something wrong with you, probably a chemical imbalance
Is it not possible to take these emotions and channel it?
Instead of sticking on a band-aid while avoiding the issue
Of growing up on your own, kids always making fun in school
'til you move again, and sadness becomes anger becomes proof
That the only thing you really need to know is to know the truth
Well here's some truth, there's a whole lot more to you
All the pain that you've been holding is what has been molding you
So you can feed off the aggression of this world so cold or you
Can give in to depression's hold and let it just take over you
Looking back on the past you just wanna forget it all
But if you keep moving forward, one day you'll be walking tall
Then you'll look back again and see everything that you've accomplished
No more wishing it was over, enough with all that nonsense
Cuz when you're looking back you just wanna forget it all
But if you keep moving forward, one day you'll be walking tall
Then you'll look back again and see all the things that you've accomplished
Walking around with confidence
Really, I'm being honest
You're the center of your world, if you don't care, then who will?
No one, cuz everyone is just looking out for themselves
And you got nowhere to go while you're sitting in the cold
So you can stand up for yourself or just get thrown out to the wolves
You find every time you cry you're just soaking your own shoulder
You keep hoping things will change but every day you're getting older
And as the days go by you realize no one's coming to your rescue
But it's fine cuz soon you'll find the only one you need is you
And that's the truth, the one you've been searching for all along
That no one wants you to believe, they don't want you to be strong
But you need to be, you need to breathe and find your inner calm
Cuz when it's gone, my only option is to find strength in a song
I was scared to even say this cuz I'm also this kid
So remember, when you're at your worst, you're not alone, we're all connected
And we're there for each other, whether in person or in spirit
I'm not just saying this for you, I also needed to hear it
Looking back on the past you just wanna forget it all
But if you keep moving forward, one day you'll be walking tall
Then you'll look back again and see everything that you've accomplished
No more wishing it was over, enough with all that nonsense
Cuz when you're looking back you just wanna forget it all
But if you keep moving forward one day you'll be walking tall
Then you'll look back again and see all the things that you've accomplished
I stand here now with confidence
Really, I'm being honest
